For eating, use the age-appropriate configuration and keep your child securely seated and upright. The chair itself is not a baby restraint: Stokke uses the Baby Set from when a child can sit unaided, and its current Harness is a separate optional accessory for use with that Baby Set.

01 · Quick verdict

Who this makes sense for

Best fit Families who want a permanent dining chair with adjustable seat and foot support and genuinely expect to keep using it after the highchair stage.
Think twice if You need a chair that folds away, want the cheapest complete six-month highchair, or dislike buying a chair and then choosing Baby Set, harness, tray and cushion separately.
02 · Current recommendation

Tripp Trapp still makes sense because it stops being a highchair

The purchase only becomes rational when you value the years after the tray-and-harness stage.

Tripp Trapp is an adjustable wooden dining chair rather than a padded highchair that happens to last longer. The seat and footplate move in height and depth, letting the chair change as a child grows and keeping them at the family table rather than on a fixed tray island.

Stokke tests the chair itself to 136kg, so the long-term story is not marketing shorthand for “until preschool”. The meaningful question is whether you want a piece of furniture to remain in the kitchen for years.

03 · Current specifications

The chair is simple; the configuration is where complexity enters

Buy the exact package you intend to use, not just the wooden frame.

04 · Long-term fit

The adjustable footplate is the feature that changes the ownership story

It is what most fixed highchairs cannot reproduce as the child grows.

Both seat and footplate can be repositioned, so a smaller child can sit with useful lower-body support and an older child can progressively gain space. When the Baby Set is no longer needed, the same chair becomes ordinary table seating rather than becoming redundant baby equipment.

That adjustability only works if you actually move the boards as the child grows. Tripp Trapp is not self-adjusting furniture; its advantage depends on occasional setup changes.

05 · What you actually need

The chair price is not the six-month highchair price

This is the most important shopping distinction on the page.

Stokke sells the wooden chair, Baby Set, Harness, Tray, cushions and Newborn Set as separate products, while selected retailer or Stokke bundles combine some of them. The current Baby Set is for children who can sit unaided, approximately from six months.

The current five-point Harness is optional and sold separately, and Stokke states that it can only be used with the current Baby Set. The Tray also attaches to the Baby Set rather than directly to the wooden chair.

Our take

Check the bundle, not the product photo. A photograph showing chair, Baby Set, harness and tray does not mean every listing includes all four. Confirm the exact components before comparing prices.

06 · Daily life

Its natural home is at the table, not folded in a cupboard

That can be an advantage or an immediate reason to choose something else.

The chair does not fold. It is designed to sit at dining-table height as a permanent piece of furniture, which avoids daily unfolding but assumes you have floor space to leave it there.

The optional tray is useful if you want a separate eating surface, but it is not the product’s central philosophy. The stronger reason to buy Tripp Trapp is bringing the child into ordinary family-table seating and retaining that seat afterwards.

Why it stands out
✓Adjustable seat and footplate
✓Chair tested to 136kg
✓Baby Set and Newborn Set extend the age range
✓Up to 7-year warranty on eligible registered products
Good to know
!Does not fold
!Six-month setup can require several separately priced accessories
!Harness and tray are not automatically included
!Needs periodic adjustment to deliver its ergonomic benefit
07 · What to compare

Do not compare Tripp Trapp with budget chairs on feature count alone

08 · Modern Parenting verdict

Expensive as a highchair; much easier to justify as long-term dining furniture.

The Tripp Trapp recommendation rests on adjustability, table integration and lifespan. If you only want somewhere safe and wipeable for the next couple of years, cheaper chairs solve that job perfectly well.

If you want supported feet, a seat that changes as your child grows and furniture you expect to keep, the current Tripp Trapp remains one of the clearest premium propositions in the category.

09 · Common questions

Frequently asked questions

The base product is the adjustable wooden chair. Baby Set, Harness, Tray, cushion and Newborn Set are separate unless the exact listing is a named bundle.

Stokke says from when the child can sit unaided, approximately six months.

Treat the harness as a separate optional accessory unless your specific bundle explicitly lists it. Stokke sells the current five-point Harness separately for use with the Baby Set.

No. It is designed as a permanent chair at the dining table.

Stokke currently states that the chair is tested to 136kg / 300lb.

Only with the compatible Newborn Set. That is a separate accessory/configuration, not the bare chair.

Stokke advertises an extended warranty of up to seven years for eligible products, subject to registration and current terms.
