Best Bedside Cribs UK 2026 Tried and Tested
Six bedside cribs reviewed from £150 to £350 — honest verdicts on safety, ease of use, bed height compatibility and how long they actually last.
Is your nursery sleep setup safe?
Our Safe Sleep Checker walks through every element of your baby’s sleep environment against current NHS and Lullaby Trust guidance.
What to Know Before You Buy
A bedside crib sits flush against your bed, with one side that opens or drops down so you can reach your baby without getting up. The NHS and Lullaby Trust recommend room-sharing for at least the first six months — a bedside crib is the most practical way to do this while keeping your baby on a separate, firm sleep surface. Our full safe sleep guide covers all the current UK guidance in detail.
How long will a bedside crib last?
Most bedside cribs are designed for the first six months, at which point babies typically begin to pull themselves up or roll — making an open-sided crib unsafe. Some models extend to around nine months. After that you will need a full cot or cot bed — see our best cots UK guide for what to move on to next.
Bed height compatibility
This is the most commonly overlooked factor. Every bedside crib has an adjustable height range, and your mattress surface must fall within that range for the crib to sit safely flush against your bed. Measure from the floor to the top of your mattress before buying. Most cribs adjust between approximately 44–76cm, but this varies. Check the specification sheet for every model you consider.
Attaching to the bed
Most bedside cribs use a tether strap that loops under your mattress or around the bed frame to prevent the crib sliding away from the bed during the night. The fit depends on your bed frame design — slatted frames, divan bases and platform beds all behave differently. Check the manufacturer’s compatibility information for your specific bed type.
① Best Overall
The SnüzPod 4 is consistently the best-selling bedside crib in the UK and it earns that position. The full-length zip-down side gives completely unobstructed access to your baby — important for breastfeeding in particular. The mattress incline is adjustable, which is genuinely useful for babies with reflux. The mesh sides provide excellent airflow and visibility. It folds flat for travel and the breathable fabric covers are machine washable. The SnüzPod 4 is also one of the few bedside cribs with a wide enough height range to fit both low platform beds and high divan bases.
② Best Value
The Chicco Next2Me Magic is excellent value for a bedside crib with proper height adjustment and a foldable design. The drop-down side panel is easy to operate one-handed in the dark — genuinely important at 3am. Nine height settings cover most bed types. The “Magic” version adds a one-touch fold which makes it far more practical for daytime use in a different room or travel. Covers are removable and machine washable. For families who want the core bedside crib functionality without the premium price, this is the clear choice.
③ Best Convertible
The BabyBay Original takes a different approach to most bedside cribs. Made from solid beech wood, it has a completely open side — no panel, no zip — and attaches flush to your mattress via straps that go under the bed. This gives maximum access and the most bed-like feeling. The 9-month use period is longer than most. When the bedside stage is over, the BabyBay converts to a sofa, changing table or desk via extension kits — genuinely extending the investment. Part of good nursery planning is thinking about what items can flex as your baby grows.
④ Best Compact
The CoZee has a significantly smaller footprint than most bedside cribs, making it the best choice for smaller master bedrooms where space is genuinely limited. The zip-down side gives good access. The more compact sleeping area is appropriate for newborns but feels smaller than alternatives as babies grow past three months. For parents planning their nursery layout with our Nursery Planning Tool, the CoZee’s dimensions are worth mapping out before committing — it could make the difference in a tight room.
⑤ Best Mid-Range
The CuddleCo Aria has one of the most appealing designs of any bedside crib and the quality of materials justifies its mid-range positioning. The breathable mesh sides and zip-down front work well. The Aria comes in a wider range of colourways than most competitors — relevant if your nursery colour scheme matters. Height adjustment is straightforward and covers most bed types. A good choice for parents who want something that looks as good as it functions.
⑥ Best Sustainable
Mokee is a UK brand built around ethical sourcing and sustainability. The bedside crib uses FSC-certified birch plywood with non-toxic finishes, and the company publishes clear information about its supply chain. Functionally it competes well — full zip-down side, good height range, removable and washable covers. The design is clean and Scandi-influenced. For parents for whom sustainability credentials are a genuine priority alongside functionality, this is the only bedside crib in this guide that meaningfully delivers on both. If you’re thinking about the wider sustainability of your baby purchases, our second-hand baby gear guide covers where it is and isn’t safe to buy used.

Buying Guide
Do I need a bedside crib or will a Moses basket do?
Moses baskets are portable and cheaper, but they sit on the floor or on a stand rather than at bed height, meaning you have to lean or get up for every night feed. A bedside crib at bed height makes night feeds significantly easier and is more likely to support the room-sharing recommendation without disturbing your sleep unduly. If budget is the deciding factor, see what the full first year costs with our Baby Budget Calculator — a bedside crib often costs less than the pram accessories that get added to a budget.
What comes after a bedside crib?
At around six months — or when your baby starts to roll, pull up or sit — you will need to move them to a full cot or cot bed. Our best cots UK guide covers the transition. Some parents move babies to their own room at this point; the NHS recommends room-sharing for at least six months but acknowledges that the decision is yours after that. Our baby sleep guide covers the transition in detail.
When should I order?
No later than 32–34 weeks pregnant. Popular models sell out and delivery can take two to three weeks. Use our Due Date Buying Timeline to plan the full sequence of nursery purchases around your due date.
Which bedside crib should you buy?
For most families the SnüzPod 4 is the right answer — its zip-down side, incline adjustment and build quality justify the premium over the six months you will use it. If budget is the primary constraint, the Chicco Next2Me Magic delivers everything you genuinely need at £100 less.
Measure your bed height before ordering anything. The right crib for someone with a low-slung platform bed is different to the right crib for a high divan. This single check prevents the most common bedside crib return.
